Chapter 16 - Required Reading and more…

These books came in the mail yesterday (from Martingale).

landscape.jpgI’m particuliarly interested in the Points of View, Landscape Quilts to Stitch and Embellish by Valerie Hearder.  While there are some very nice projects in the book, I’m thinking that this book is really about technique and inspiration — which is EXCELLENT.    You’ll have to take a look at it at your local shop.

The Pickles were talking about their quilting spaces about a month ago and look at the book that Martingale just put out!  It’s an 8-page planner.  That has wipe-off ability so you can move your furniture around, etc.

Looks like I’ll have zero excuse for sewing in a messy room from now on.  That said, $12.95 for this little leaflet is jaw-dropping astounding.  I love me my Martingale but holy-moly what were they thinking when they were pricing this one?

lickitysplit.jpg  I LOVE this book for fast, easy, kiddie quilts.   Your “she’s having a baby” quilt planning angst is O-V-E-R!

figtree.jpg  Fig Tree Quilts, Houses by Joanna Figueroa and Lisa Quan.  Nice book. Great concept.  BUT ver-r-r-r-r-r-r-y traditional.  So what’s wrong with that?  I like it!  Oh, and the little sampler on page 48 IS FABULOUS!

 Christmas magnets?  Pass.  magnet-set.jpg

Lookie, lookie what Clover sent!   It’s their Nouveau Smocking Technique.  It makes smocking EASY….just like their fab-o yo-yo makers!  They are stickers that you place on the fabric and then just stitch in numerical order!   Can’t get much easier than that!

I’m so behind on the magazine –  later dudes!  xooxm

Chapter 14 - Just Wondering…

Just wondering…..

While I know that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I can’t help to wonder how flattered Quilter’s Home should be by an Art Director of  another publication? Seems every issue is inching closer and closer to the style of Quilter’s Home.   What do you think?

Frankly, this kind of flattery is just a bit too much for even my taste.     xoxom

Chapter 13 - This n That

Hola Kids!

Just wanted to show you what came in the mail today –

about-quilting.jpg  Yet ANOTHER GUIDE TO QUILTING!   I had to chuckle when I saw it.   Now I have to admit to you all that I LOVE  and ADORE About.com, especially for quilting but isn’t having all of this stuff already posted online enough?  Do we really need a book too?  I mean it’s already immediately available on the Net!     What’s next, a floating EVERYTHING QUILTING blimp?    Maybe I’m being short sighted but if you have a website that has built it’s entire reputation on telling us everything about anything, then why the printed page too?   That said, it’s a nicely done book (and I love and respect the author) but I’ll stay online, thank you.

pug.jpg  I couldn’t resist this baby pug pattern from www.FourTwinSisters.com.  I’m showing you what you can print out for free on their site — and in full size!   Visit them and take a look.

Speaking of Pugs — Why oh why does Tulip INSIST on squeezing her medicine ball shaped bod into Lily the Cat’s bed?   Doesn’t look comfortable to me!    tulip-in-lilys-bed-4-web.jpg

YAWZA!  The Art Tartz, Liz and Deb, sent me a little surprise….WonderFil threads and a book from WonderFil on what to do with them.  I can’t wait to start playing with them.  Thanks you guys!

Are any of you WonderFil fans and anything I should know before I start playing?

Michaels was having a 40% off sale on these so I HAD to have one!

sizzix_products3.jpg

It’s a Sizzix that was designed to die cut paper for scrapbooking but can also die cut fabric (with a fusible on the back) for quilting applique use!  Yahhhooooo!   It was originally $200 bucks.  I got it for $119.  But the sale is only this week pumpkins!  I got the last one in my Michael’s. I also bought a shitload of die cut designs (of course — you KNOW money grows on trees)!    Anyone else have one of these?
