HOUSTON—February 20, 2008—International Quilt Festival announced today that the recipient of the 2008 Silver Star Award is Alex Anderson of Livermore, California. The award is given annually to living persons who have made a lasting and positive impact on the field of quilting and textile art over their careers.

An artist, author, teacher, and multi-media host, Anderson was chosen for many reasons, including her stint hosting nearly 500 episodes of the national TV series “Simply Quilts.” The show was integral in introducing and promoting the artform to a large audience

Good for her. I loved that show – learned tons of things watching her guests demonstrate techniques. Wish HGTV hadn’t cancelled the show. We need a quilt program out there. I’m not interested in podcasts until they are either closed-captioned or transcribed for hearing impaired. So, congrats to Alex and thanks for the lessons.

Alex who-bores-the-living-crap-outta-me winning an award-that-means-absolutely-nothing-to-me . . . makes no impression on me whatsoever, darling.

Alex may not be the most exciting host of a show but she has brought some interesting techniques to the viewing audience and has shared her knowledge with others and alllowed us to learn about many other ways to improve our quilts and expand our sewing experience. She has had an extensive guest list which has inspired me to do other things besides just quilt a wallhanging or a blanket and for that I am grateful and I think she should be recognized. She has taken her passion and given it to the world.

Alex is one of my heroes. She has done amazing work in bringing all kinds of quilting to all of us. Exciting? I think a host needs to make the guest exciting, and I think she does that well.
