Stars and Stripes Quilt for QOV

Hey, kids!

Listen, as many of you know I taped a Quilts of Valor special for Iowa Public Television at the very generous invitation of Quilt-Goddess, Marianne Fons, along with patchwork-divas,  Alex Anderson and Eleanor Burns.

The special has been airing on public television stations around the United States now and I keep getting requests for the Stars and Stripes quilt pattern I designed!   Well, what an honor that you all seem to like it BUT I don’t sell a pattern for it!

You see, I donated that pattern to Iowa Public Television.  If you make a pledge to support Iowa Public Television (something I feel very strongly about) you will get the DVD and the all of the patterns for the quilts featured in the Quilts of Valor special.

But there’s more —  if you can wait a couple of months, my Stars and Stripes pattern will be featured in an upcoming LOVE OF QUILTING magazine (available in August, I think.)  So make sure you pick up  a copy!

In the meantime, why not check out the Quilts of Valor link to find out about the foundation and how you can help support our veterans (something else I feel very strongly about.)

IMPORTANT:  If you would like to see the Quilts of Valor special on your local Public Television station, simply call and/or write to your local station and talk with the production executive  and ask them to please air the special from Iowa Public Television.  Find your local station’s number and address  at:   http://www.pbs.org/   xoxom

I loved the show. I love your quilt and want to make it for a special veteran. You are so inspiring. Thanks for that. I get my daily poke in the head from you. You inspire me with your daily musings on Facebook about art, dishes, fabric, color… I love your style. You are a keeper.

Hi Mark. I ordered the DVD from IPTV and loved it. Of course, I got the pattern for all the quilts on the show. Still can’t wait for your pattern to show up in Fons & Porter Love of Quilting. Matter of fact today was my birthday so I went out and bought a bunch of fabric for my QOV quilts. It made it made it a wonderful birthday. Well, I also got to spend the day with my daughter and grand baby and spending a quiet evenin with my hubby. PERFECT!!!!

Just watched the Quilts of Valor show. It was great watching the “rookies” make such beautiful and meaningful quilts. I am constantly amazed at how a combination of blocks can create clever quilt designs. Thank you so much for being involved with this project.

I watched the Quilts of Valor show today and it was so moving to listen to the veterans who received their quilts and how much they meant to them. I am inspired to make more of these quilts asap. It was a fun show! The Rookies did fabulous jobs, and the coaches were great! Your quilt was my favorite and I’m anxiously awaiting for the August issue of Love of Quilting. I have a very special Vietnam veteran I would like to make this quilt for. Thank you and Marianne Fons for making the pattern available to us!

Just wondering if that was the July-August Fons & Porter. I just purchased it for the pattern and it is not there. Very dissapointed. Or will it be in a September-October issue?

I think it’s the September-October issue that hits the stands in August, from what I’m told. Sorry about the confusion! xoxom

I’m watching the Quilts Of Valor show right now with tears in my eyes. What a great job you all did teaching the rookies. I’ve been making QOV’s for a couple of years and I love seeing the presentations of the quilts. Thanks for supporting the great QOV program. I love all of the patterns and look forward to the magazine coming out.

All I know is what I was told . . . I wish I could help you. You know, why don’t you contact Fons & Porter and I’ll do the same? Their editorial staff would know for sure. Thanks for the head’s up. xooxm

I have found all the fabric you used in your QOV quilt except the cream fabric. Could you tell me the name of the design? Thank you.

    Mark,
It is now 2016 and I want to say to you that your Quilt of Valour for Iowa Public Television is my all time most favorite Quilt of Valour.
I just finished watching ” Quilt of Valour II”.
It was great. I cried during the segment of your POW. God bless him and all the prisoners of war of all wars, and those still MIA.
    So glad your doing well.
    Sincerely,
    Phyllis Smith
