Win Linda Lum DeBono’s SEW MERRY AND BRIGHT Book!

Oh, Canada has given us many things ….

Smarties

Ketchup Chips

Margaret Trudeau

(OK, that’s a stretch . . . )

But the best thing to come out of Canada is my buddy

Linda Lum DeBono

As an invited part of LLDB’s blog tour to celebrate her new book, I bring you Linda’s newest bestseller  ….

Before I go on . . .

I want to let you know that you can hear LLDB talk all about her book, her process and her inspiration on my podcast, Creative Mojo with Mark Lipinski.

To listen just click this link:   http://toginet.com/podcasts/creativemojo/CreativeMojoLIVE_2012-07-11.mp3?type=showpage

Now, don’t be an idiot . . .

Listen, cupcake, Christmas is just right around the corner.  And if you have plans for making and creating the perfect holiday, you’d better get started on those Christmas projects — TODAY!!!

Linda’s book is full of easy, fun and whimsical ideas that will make your sister-in-laws simply curl with jealousy once they see what you have created.

I ask you: Isn’t it worth anything to see those bitches , curl?

A Little History . . .

I first met Linda Lum DeBono when when we were children in the Japanese internment camps during World War II

OK, that’s a lie (But, I had Linda’s adorable baby picture and just I couldn’t help myself)

First of all, Linda is Chinese, not Japanese, and while she was born during the early 1930′s I wasn’t birthed until the very late 1950′s.   And she’s CANADIAN (Hello? Weren’t you reading?)

Linda and I actually met at our local quilt shop, Kindred Quilts, after I had fallen in love with one of her patterns and the shop owner promised to introduce us.  We’ve been fast friends (and neighbors) since then.  She’s the sister I never had and I am, frankly, Linda’s one that got away . . .

HERE’S WHY YOU NEED THIS BOOK

  • There are 21 fun and whimsical projects in the book, including wall hangings, place mats, ornaments, stockings, table runners, a tree skirt, an Advent calendar, and more!
  • Linda is a master at using novelty and bright prints so your Christmas stuff won’t look like the same old crap you’ve been buying and making for years!
  • People LOVE to get handmade gifts like these rather than some cheesy Hickory Farms sausage basket — so get to work!
  • Linda is not writing books for her health.  This is how she makes her living.  Unless you’d like to see her and her beautiful family living in an old refrigerator box behind your local Piggly Wiggly, then I suggest you get out your checkbook and start ordering (…the books make great gifts, too).
  • She uses Aurifil Thread.
  • That Patchwork Place does great books!

Just Some of What You’ll Find Inside

The holiday world of Linda Lum DeBono inspired designs await you.  Great instructions and easy techniques, even a beginner can master!

Hi Mark, I think I need to say…Linda is probably one of the more creative designers I have seen in a long while! As a fellow Canuk, I have to say that I am not really surprised by that! Don’t get me wrong, I think that you are my favorite designer from both sides of our shared border! I sure wouldn’t mind getting a copy os Lindas book and if I do not win the copy you’re offering as a treat, I’ll probably buy my own copy!
    Take care, and thank you!

Would love to have this book! And thanks for the in-depth background on Linda. :P

  48. July 29, 2012 at 9:46 AM #

She had me at the squirrel. We have two in our backyard – Blackie and Graytail – who drive us crazy (have you ever heard a squirrel who doesn’t want to have sex at 2 in the morning with her philandering partner?). My family will laugh themselves silly if the new ornaments for our tree this year are squirrels! And because we live in the heart of squirrel country in southern Ontario (note that is in Canada) I could make them for the neighbours too!

    July 29, 2012 at 9:48 AM #

Linda’s book makes the Christmas projects even more happy and jolly! I love the bright fabrics and her take of the new colors of Christmas and the holiday season. The book along with your “collector” fabrics would be a wonderful treat at any time of the year. Thank you, both, for your generosity!!!! PS Kindred Quilts is one of my favorite quilt shops. A friend introduced me to that shop in 1995 – it reinstated my love of fabric, quilting, and sewing. Have been back several times since then and always enjoy it so much. xoxoxo

Linda may be Chinese but I definitely feel a Nordic air just looking at those wonderful projects. I would love to add that to my plans for a Nordic Christmas theme this year.

Linda’s book seems wonderful. Her projects will bring a lot of smiles during the holidays and even before as they are created. My daughters (ages 15 and 12) could make a lot of things for our holiday from her book. Thank you for putting Linda on your show, I really look forward to hearing it.

I had to google smarties. Canadian???? They’re a British invention but I see the biggest production facility outside of Europe is in Canada. So your Smarties do come from Canada, but they’re a British invention.

    • July 30, 2012 at 6:51 AM #

Not technically Canadian but he makes fun of me because I “import” my stash from Canada. American ketchup chips are horrible and it is tough to get Smarties or Aero [though Hershey just started making something similar] in the US.

I would say that poutine and butter tarts are more “Canadian” and those would not travel as well.

WOW!!! Creativity, Whimsey, Originality and Talent all in one package…and you are right now the same old traditional Christmas crap. For some reason the squirrel ornament is my favorite….maybe because the local squirrels keep my four indoor kitties entertained so they are not pestering me for treats all the time ????
