Down and Out

I’ve had to take a little break, kiddos.

I’m down and out with pneumonia, of all things.  Spent Sunday in the hospital.  On tons of pills.   Seeing my MD again this morning.     Other than that, all is well!  🙂   xoxom

Well pneumonia is bad . . . but a great excuse to do nothing but lay around in bed and watch TV. Let’s look on the bright side – – you waited to get sick until the writers went back to work so there is something to watch on TV. It would have been so much worse a month ago! Get better soon.

Oh Mark, I am so sorry to hear that you are WAY under the weather. Pneumonia is nothing to mess around with (I know that)!! Take care of yourself and stop trying to do 50,000 things in one week. We’ll be lonely without your awsome and insightful posts, but your job now is to get rest and get better.

Get well soon. Or all the pickles are going to come over there and feed you chicken soup and fuss around until you recover! There that should do it.

Mark, Take care of yourself. Pneumonia is nothing to fool around with and can take forever to get over if you try to get back to work too soon. Wish I could get you some of our chicken-noodle soup!!!!! Carleen

PS: Now you can rest up to dish the dirt on American Idol, and other similar shows. I am still devastated that Michael Johns got voted off the Island! That man is just plain yummy, isn’t he?

Oh, do we ever have to learn how to pace ourselves in a world with so many possibilities and so little time! Take it easy. We will be eagerly waiting to hear from you, and patiently waiting too–until you get really well! A stitch in time saves nine!!!!!!!!!!

    Jewish Chicken Soup:
1 large chicken, place in pot & cover with water
Add large onion quartered, 2-3 stalks celery and 3-4 carrot sliced thick
Fresh dill – whole package or about 1 C (chopped)
Simmer for about an hour or until chicken is tender – remove from stock
Add salt & pepper to taste
Boil broad noodles in stock (about 10 minutes) & return boned chicken to soup
Feel better soon, Mark. We miss you.

Hi honey – We’re thinking of you and sending our best hopes for you to get well, and also really hoping you’ll be able to stay strong and disciplined and just REST. We know how hard it is for you, but I’m one more person saying “Don’t mess with pneumonia!” ’cause if you do, it will just last longer and cause you more problems down the road. Maybe the Pickles could write this issue of the mag for you. 🙂

    Hey Mark-
Hope you are following the advice of all of the other Pickles who beat me to the punch. Personal experience tells me that although you may not be able to enjoy the down time, you have to take it in order to recover and come back to fight another day! Just think of all the quilts you can plan in between those naps!

Thinking of you and wishing you to feel better. (Always feels good when the hurting quits)-so that sounded like a bad country western song…oh yea, you do have a dog, and a cat – got a pick up truck? Seriously, feel better-hugs from MN, Dee

If you wanted to get away from it all for awhile I can think of better places than a hospital to be at.
Hope all is getting better with you and do what the doctor tells you to do!

    Hi Mark,

You should have seen the long faces at our Guild meeting last Monday when I announced that Mark was not coming….but, not to feel guilty, friend….everyone was very understanding of your situation and we ALL just want you to be well!!!! And, most importantly…we really are looking forward, even more than ever, to have you make up the missed lecture/workshop at CT Piecemakers. We’re hoping you can commit to Monday, Oct. 20 for the lecture/meeting and Tuesday, Oct. 21 for the workshop. I need to apply for the library lecture hall for all of the 2008/09 season next week, or we’ll lose our options for our meeting dates. Could you just let me know if you can re-schedule for our Guild for those two days? Our members who paid for the workshop have their fabric cut (*according to your specs) and are looking forward to the class.

Hope you’re doing better this week with your pneumonia, and that you’re able to concentrate on getting well. I apologize for bringing business into the conversation when you should just be thinking about yourself, but that’s life!!

    JoAnne Fabry, Guild Pres.

Hope you are feeling some better, but you may be feeling discouraged that you’re not getting better faster. At least you can use the time to catch up on all the bad TV you miss the rest of the time! There’s nothing like being sick to remind you of how good “normal” feels. Hope your dinner with us in PA was not to blame and that your parents are well.

Good Golly Mark: What have you done to yourself? Please make sure that you have others do for you and that we will hear all the ways that you are going to make changes to your lifestyle so this won’t happen again….I know whereof I speak! We are all thinking about you and your smiley chops so hope that you are on the mend and will be telling tales of Pickle Road soon…Be good to yourself. as your family needs you healthy. Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Take ALL of the antibiotics as prescribed, drink TONS of fluids, and REST. No sitting at the computer, no quilting, no stressing out over the tasks unfinished–if you don’t recover they won’t get done anyway. Just REST and know we are all praying for you and love you.

Hi Mark–Hope that your rest and recovery is going ok, and that your pneumonia has not proven to have extensive complications . . . as it has been known to do! Just know that your friends in fabric land are still thinking about you and hoping that nothing dire is happening in your world. Those fabric journals in the last issue of QuiltersHome are proving extremely popular among my circle of friends. Your creative offerings are bearing fruit even as you must stay on the sidelines! Hoping all the best for you! Penny

  48. May 12, 2008 at 12:14 AM #

Wow!!! Was really hoping you’d be back up and at it! Sorry that pneumonia has you down 😦 Most importantly take care for you and don’t be afraid to ask for help! You’ll get through it. I know how hard it is to be down. I’m a pet groomer of twenty two years and carpal tunnel has reared it’s ugly head. So they have done surgery on both of my hands a week apart and my business has come to an unpaid screeching halt as I am the only employee 😦 The thing we need to remember is to take care of us, get better and get back at it. If they are worth it they’ll still be there :0) GET WELL!

INFLUENCE! INFLUENCE! I just bought a copy of a Better Homes & Gardens quilt shop round up magazine. By golly, Quilters Home is making a dent in the all-quilting-all-the-time thing. This issue actually featured some ‘fun finds’ from the states where the shops were located (including . . . BEER!) and suggested other enjoyable restaurants, shops and attractions one might visit while in the area. Your idea that we are actually well rounded individuals seems to be catching on. Keep recuperating! P.

I hope this finds you on the mend!!! We miss your blogging…and I know once you get caught up after being sick, we’ll get to see all your pics, notes, etc again. It is really missed!!!
Just to let you know…I got an email newsletter from I’ve bought lots from there, and they are great. Anyway…in the letter, they say…
“In addition to your favorite designers that we currently stock,
we will be adding two new designers (Erin McMorris and Mark Lipinski)
with collections that debut later this Summer. Stay tuned…you will not
    want to miss them!”
    Woo hoo!!!
Just wanted to let you know that your new collection is being advertised by this shop!!
Take care, and hope to see you back with us soon!!!
