Here’s What’s Up

Come and Visit me on SATURDAY!

This Saturday, February 21, from 10 AM until 1 PM, I’ll be signing magazines, laughing, creating chaos and giving sneak previews of my upcoming fabric lines, prizes and autographs (of the banned issue) and my new krakow fabrics  at

emmas

Emma’s won the califon display contest and I’m driving up to thank them (they also won the complete line of my krakow fabrics).   Here are a couple of pics from their winning display.

So please stop to say ‘hi’ this weekend for a few laughs, hugs, stash shopping and fun!  xoxom

McCalls!

I’m really happy to be in the new issue of McCall’s Quilting

_20090219_135708041

First, two table runners pieced for me by Elaine, owner of The Quilter’s Nook Studio, in White Oak, PA, using my califon fabric line.  The Quilter’s Nook has kits available for these two table running projects so take a look.  You can call Elaine at 412-751-1356

Then designer Penny Sturges of Quiltsillustrated has a sweet bag design using the B&W califon (but I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the McCall’s included a ton of bags recreating Penny’s design using a lot of different fabrics and hot designer combos).

Quiltmaker!

You know, chickens, I was in blogging hell and didn’t have the change to show you the cover quilt for the latest Quiltmaker, and a quilt they are featuring  using the califon fabrics.  Take a look.  It’s a fabulous quilt in person!   Kindred Quilts is offering this quilt as a kit.  You can call Kindred at 908-730-8896

GLASS BUTTONS

I was working on a segment for Quilter’s Home at a local bead shop and saw these terrific glass buttons.  My buddy Toby (owner of Kindred Quilts) told me that there is a glass making class at this shop that teaches how to make these glass beads.  So Jeff, Toby, and I signed up!    Here’s an example of what they look like.

  Fabulous, right?   Can’t wait!

So, guess what?  Guess what showed up at the bead shop?   The owner, Linda, had a bag made from my Katmandu fabric!   The button on it is fused glass — the class we’re going to take.  Small world!

 New Stuff

I am so honored that designer Tricia Cribbs added a califon fabric quilt in her new latest book, Turning Twenty Simply Sashed.  Now you know how I love a Turning Twenty, this is like icing on the cake for daddy!

The califon quilt is on the upper left of the book jacket.  I love the quilt on the lower right!

Here’s the califon quilt in greater detail

Love this little book, Sip ‘n Sew,  by Diane Dhein for Krause Publications.

_20090219_17422902

There are a lot of cute projects and some yummy *hic* cocktail recipes in here!  Ahhh, a woman after my own heart!   But be careful.  Too many of these ‘magic’ drinkables and you might end up like that freakozoid Octo-mom!

If you’e not a big fabric buyer (you like FQs and smaller), you’ll love Loose Change by Claudia Plett and Le Ann Weaver.  I think it’s a very nicely done book, and while the quilts aren’t anything out of the ordinary (what do you expect from tiny pieces of fabric?),  they are worth a look and are inspiring!

And, I wasn’t going to say anything, but what the hell….

Laura Pond

We know who you are and your little cats, too!

(more on that later)

    Hi Mark
I am so glad that you are back blogging. You really cheer up my day.
Especially today, as it was a snow day, and I just could not face going out.
    Thanks

What a great read today, Mark!

You seem to be popping up all over the place. I haven’t received my copy of Quiltmaker *frown*, but did get my QH. Wonderful work, as always!

    Have fun on Saturday!

hey Mark–Thanks for showing the Quiltmaker with your quilt on the cover–it’s the Jan/Feb ’09 issue though and the March/April ’09 issue is on newsstands now. Jan/Feb might still be hanging around at some LQS or newsstands–otherwise it can be ordered from http://www.VillageQuiltShoppe.com.

Wish I could make it to Franklin…sounds like fun. Just wanted to mention I got my copy of Quilters Home, read the “banned” article – and have no idea why the magazine was banned. I reminds of when people were banning the Simpsons and Harry Potter, without seeing either one! Loved the magazine – always do. suz

Thanks for the latest QH – bought it at Borders and it came in a plastic bag! Read it front-to-back this a.m. and became so inspired I am off to sew. Now I see you’re going to be in Mass today – how do I fit in that drive? So many distractions…

Great job on the McCall’s patterns. I really like the table runner in your fabrics and that bag I really do need to make that too.
Good to see you posting again!

Hi, Mark: Did you work with me at Ryder & Schild Advertising in Miami in the 80’s? I’m not at all surprised that you are doing so well. I am getting back into acting and hope I have as much success as you are having. Love, Barbara
