‘Gotta Love this Publication

Simply the Best

When it comes to professional quilting publications for retailers there is one that stands out far and above the rest —  American Quilt Retailer.   I have found that whether you’re a “professional” retailer or not, this is, and remains, the  the go-to magazine for quilting professionals (it must be — other retailer magazines seem to have been “borrowing” ideas and elements of style from them for years.  While everybody earnestly  tries to produce a great publication , this one seems to set the standard in the professional niche).

If you’re a shop owner, you should be subscribing. If you’re a ‘professional’ or ‘professional wannabe’ get out your checkbook.   If you have zero interest in the business of quilting but have to get along in life, there are mighty lessons to be learned in these articles — give it a try and subscribe and use the tools in your own life and in your own job or business!

The contributors are totally credible and well respected!

Meet a few of them:

Left to Right (clicking on their name will bring you to their web sites if  they have one):   Ann Logue;  Ashley Smith;  Beth Ferrier;  Brandi Frey;  Joanna Figueroa; Jim Salinas; Linda Griepentrog; Mimi Shimp; Pat Forke; Roseann Kermes; Georganne Bender and Rich Kizer; Jim Fuquay.

It’s a pity . . .

. . . And a shame that so many magazines, hire ‘posers’ whose only interest is  trying to claw their way to some kind of quilt-themed and narcissistic stardom without much (or any) street cred  (Can’t hide.  I know who you are) .  The other side of the coin is the professional “attitude”  (and we all have experienced that from the very-few-but-obnoxious [thank goodness!] handful of the full-of-themselves, know-it-all, professional quiltzillas — and I know who you are, too).

The shame is that the consumer suffers, often believing what they read without knowing the politics and ‘business’ behind the decisions to either publish a some idiot or have a spokesperson for a company who is not as in the know they are touted to be .   Again:  Poor money spending consumer!

Now in the interest of full disclosure, I had written for this publication years ago, love and adore the publisher — Susan Fuquay — for her honesty, integrity and spirit. Oh, and did I mention there is a tiny blurb about me in this issue for which I’m humbled?

Publisher, Susan Fuquay, who embodies the goodness and honor that we should all strive for.

This issue’s FREE pattern

There is a free pattern in every issue (some I like, some I don’t, but this one ROCKS).   This quilt, Woven as One, is made from fabric that you ‘weave’ to make more fabric!  Woven!  And it’s beautiful  (not to mention you’ll be the hit and envy of your guild and quilting buds)!

Thanks for posting this info. I just want to let you know that I just check out your site and I find it very interesting and informative. I can’t wait to read lots of your posts. We couldn’t afford a large majority of our bills anymore, including our rent.
