Hey, Cupcakes!
My new thing is to post videos on my Facebook Friend page and MARK LIPINSKI’S FAN PAGE almost everyday! I thought I’d share one with you — my first (rather roughly edited) quilt book review.
I reviewed a book that I received from Leisure Arts Publishing called, TRIED AND TRUE RENEWED! I’d like to post at least one video review a week here. Let me know what you think! xooxm

Great review Mark. It was wonderful to see the quilts. With so many books coming out each month, LQS limit what they order. It’s pretty slim pickens in my neighborhood for books, so I always welcome anything recommend by Pickle Road, or The Posse.

I love book reviews. I’m the guild librarian (and a book slut) so an honest review is priceless.
That said, I still prefer an “old-fashioned” (text and maybe a relevant image or two) written review for a couple of reasons.
1. I’m on satellite internet with a bandwidth cap. I don’t look at a lot of videos in general. There are still a lot of people around here on dialup, too.
2. Video book reviews won’t show up in a search, nor can I skim them, reread passages, copy/paste snippets, etc.
Personally I find it annoying when I go to a news site for a particular story and it is only available on video, especially when it is nothing more than the anchor reading the copy. I can skim a story faster than they can read the teleprompter. ;o)

I really like your candid remarks about what you do and don’t like. I like seeing and hearing you. Personal touch, I guess. I like seeing pictures from the book too. That gives me a good idea of whether or not I would want to make those quilts.

In today’s economy, book reviews tell me where I want to put my money. I always look for a review from a trusted quilter before spending my $$$ on a book. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY the best (and not surprisingly) most innovative idea for a book review! Keep it up – loved the video idea. Seeing the projects like this gives me a better idea of what to look forward to if I make the decision to purchase.

I Love, Love, Love the video review of the quilt book. It gives me a great idea of what is contained in the book. I often order my quilting books online – I do most of my quilt shopping online, so it is difficult to find good reviews (with pics of the quilts included). I have bought quilting books that had good text reviews and been disappointed when I received the book itself. Thank you for such a comprehensive review.

Absolutely loved the book review. It’s always a plus with me when I can see the inside of a quilt book and view the quilts with such clarity. This one is a hit and I am on the hunt today for both you new mag and this lesiure arts book. The ideals are flowing this morning, thanks to you.

I liked your comments, however, the review was almost too casual, I realize that you said that the review was unedited and editing might make the review tighter. Explaining exactly what you liked was useful, whether or not it was the two colors, or the choice of fabric. Talking about different choices of fabric making a difference was thought provoking. What DID you like about the table runners, or why did you choose these two?
I did not think that the music was too loud, as some pickles did, but probably every machine played the volume differently.
It always helps when you talk about the value of the book, as you did, and used to do in the magazine.
On this site, under book videos, are examples of book trailers, which use less words and more music, timmcdonough.org. I was thinking that if you had a partner in these videos, you would have more time to do your thing, and still get the book review to your readers/Facebook friends.

The video review was great Mark. The music was nice, definitely not too loud. In fact, at first I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. I don’t think you need to worry too much about editing, this review was all you and I think that’s what we all like! Keep ’em coming.

So great to see you…and you look fabulous. I have had your health issues in my prayers….hope all is well.
I am so excited about the new magazines…I was shocked to see that “365” is in it’s fourth issue and I don’t even have the first one…I will remedy that immediately!
The book review was great and very informative. The pictures that you showed from the book and your comments about different fabric possibilites (especially “Elements”, one of my favs with anything…ha ha ha), gave me ideas, and were wonderfully helpful in my decision making about adding this book to my library.
Thank you for all that you do for us (quilters, sewers, crafters…etc.).

As God is my witness, I may never read another book review again! I love hearing somebody tell me about a book, showing pics from the book, etc. I can tell you really, REALLY loved this book. The passion, the animation…seeing IS believing and I believe I will add this to my Wish List. Keep ’em coming Mark! I LOVE you!

The animation in your voice sn entertaining, and the passion with which you describe some of the contents makes me really want to know more about the book, maybe even buy it. You showed enough examples from the book that I have a good idea what I’d be getting. As for editing, don’t edit too much or you’ll lose your essential pickle-ness. Thank you for bring your wonderful self into my life via your video clips! I LOVE you!

Hello, Mark. Thanks for the review: I’ve never made a traditional quilt before, although I agree with you; they always take the show. I consider your words, “Any idiot can make a log cabin” a challenge which I will meet one day. Thanks; this is a fun blog.

Love it. Love it, Love it! Books reviews are so good. Way out in rural PA the book stores are far & few between. Having access to good new book reviews is delicious- almost as good as the strawberry jam I made this morning. Wanna jar?
