Mark on Keeping Your Creative Spontaneity

Sometimes between the kids, the house, the husband, your real job, your creative work, and your “plans,” spontaneity is hurled out of your life faster than my car can turn into a Taco Bell.

Yet it is spontaneity that will fuel your originality and stimulate your imagination. Sometimes, often times, planning and scheduling every creative move can work against you.   It is the devil-may-care joie de vivre that will give you the most bang for your creative buck!

Be spontaneous.  Do something for yourself today that is out of the ordinary. It doesn’t have to be a Raiders of the Lost Ark out-of-the-box extravaganza.  Great inspriation can come from even simple change and experiences.  Look through a photography book that you wouldn’t normally look through, take a drive through an unfamiliar part of town to check out colors and shapes and design that you’re not accustomed to seeing or haven’t really inspected before.   Engage and talk with total strangers, other creatives, or people in business unrelated to your own.  Don’t shy away from jumping into your creative life headfirst today and this weekend.

What you find may be the inspired creative and artistic turning point that you’ve been waiting for.
