Ever since taping Marianne Fons’ Quilts of Valor special for Iowa Public Television, I have been inundated with requests on where to buy my Stars and Stripes quilts pattern. I couldn’t tell you because knew the pattern was being given away as an exclusive in this issue. I am both very happy and very proud to say that the pattern for my patriotic Quilts of Valor Foundation quilt has been published by Fons & Porter’s LOVE OF QUILTING magazine in their September/October 2012 issue that is just hitting the newsstands now! This is a pretty easy quilt to cut and to piece and the results are well worth the effort!

I just saw our local San Antonio (KLRN) PBS Presentation and Fund Raising on the Quilts of Valor (made a couple donations – one for the Quilts of Valor Pattern Book and DVD and one for the official Quilts of Valor Labels. I saw several of the beautiful quilts pictured above. Hope I receive my items soon and get started. I have a quilter friend in Lititz, PA that does numerous “Quilts of Valors” and she has been a great inspiration to me. I plan to make my first one for my brother a former Marine who served in Vietnam and was in all of the big battles such as Khe Sanh, Hill881, The Rock Pile and up in the DMZ. While he was reported missing numerous times, he did come home safe and in one piece; still has psychological effects and some effects from Agent Orange. What really stands out in my mind is when we picked him up at the Detroit Airport that people spit on him and us, shoved him and call him every vile name. That is something I will never forget; since there was the draft at that time, he didn’t have a choice unless he went to Canada. So I really appreciate the effort the Quilts of Valor organization is making.

My quilt is going to a Vietnam vet, too. I wore his POW/MIA bracelet in the 1970’s. Not that wars are good at anytime, but Vietnam was a particularly rough war for everyone involved. I missed the draft by millimeters. xoxom

I just received my copy of the magazine yesterday. I love your quilt! I’m going to make one for my Dad who is a Vietnam vet and one for my husband who is retired Army. Hoping to get them done for Christmas. Love ya!

Cut out all of the pieces on one day first. Then you can easily get this quilt pieced in an easy day.

Joy oh joy! Ever since you first posted a pic of your wonderful quilt, I’ve been patiently waiting for this issue of F&P. Now I can make this for my ‘sailor boy’ – plan to make it part “memory quilt” too…with some fabrics from my dear Dad’s shirts, he was a very proud WWll veteran – I think he’d approve!

Oh Mark – this pattern is FABULOUS!! Our motorcycle club ladies are wanting to make one to raffle off to send money to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Of course I also want to make one for myself too. We miss you here in Lincoln – come visit us soon!

Our local PBS Think TV aired it last Saturday and it was inspirational. Bought my fabric and beginning a Quilt of Valor this week.

Loved the quilt when I saw it on the PBS show and finally got the magazine. Over Labor Day weekend, I cut it out and sewed the star blocks. Finished the top yesterday and my quilt friends all love it and want to make one too! Amazingly, my quilt shop had the navy fabrics which I bought, not even realizing they were the ones you used. My first quilt will go to my husband, retired Air Force meterologist, and then I will make one for my son who retires from the Navy next May. Thanks for a fast & easy pattern!
