I want to thank Tricia Lynn Maloney for inviting me to hop along (if you feel shaking, it’s not an earthquake . . . it’s just me)
A little history. . .
It seems I’ve known designer and author, Tricia Lynn Maloney for ages.
We met, if I recall correctly, at a class I gave in Meadville, Pennsylvania years ago. Tricia was a student. Now, Meadville is a neighboring town to Edinboro, Pennsylvania where I attended college.
As a matter of fact, it was in Meadville, under the cloak of darkness that I, along with my fraternity pledge brother, Tom, was stripped of money and ID, blindfolded, and tied to a tree in the middle of nowhere, after having been kidnapped from our dorm rooms during our pledging.
Big deal? Why not just ask for help or hitch hike back to campus? First of all, it was the middle of the night, and; our long 1975 hair had been drenched in Areowax Floor Wax. Tom’s hair was styled into long devil horns, while mine was frozen into a thick, red rooster comb! Being invited to Meadville to teach was like coming home to me.
I have been a fan of all of Tricia’s books over the years . . .
I found her first book, Orphan Block Quilts, to be inspirational and acts as a guide to those “orphan blocks” from any one of your 342,000 UFO’s or the occasional vintage block given to you just because someone found it at a garage sale and thought you just had to have it.
I also loved Tricia’s book, A Russian Journey in Quilts: The Story of Nicholas and Nina Filatoff. The book includes 15 simple quilt projects that are taken from period designs and commemorate the incredible journey of Nicholas and Nina Filatoff. I really appreciated the real-life story of Nicholas and Nina that inspired the quilts in the book.

All you have to do is ‘precut’ your own stash into the shapes and sizes needed for each project in the I LOVE PRECUT QUILTS! book. Let me help you with that, kiddo (that’s what I’m here for).
Here are the measurements for many of the popular precuts found in our local quilt shops (but, Gawd knows, there are different names and sizes popping up every time you bat an eye). Use the following as guild then simply iron your fabrics, square them up, and cut!

I never ate a jelly roll but I did try to eat one of those jelly-colored thimbles once; just couldn’t out why it was tasteless and didn’t dissolve. It was in a bag of candy from a shop hop so I thought it was edible, too.

Love precuts, but I agree REDS can bleed! Great washing instructions, and the Salad Spinner idea is a gem. Beats laying them on a towel and gently wringing (my previous method).

Mostly I cut my own fabrics. Sometimes there’s a precut package that’s so yummy I can’t pass it up. This book is bound to be immensely helpful to me.

I had just left a Fabric Watcher Meeting (a Fabric Reduction Program) where I was happy to find that I hadn’t gained a Pre-cut and had actually lost a Charm Pack. I stopped at a Coffee Shop to celebrate with a fine cup of Java. A man sitting next to me had 2 Jelly Rolls sitting on a fine plate. I watched with green eyes as he devoured one. He wiped his mouth and gave me a wink as he left. I looked, my mouth started watering, as I observed he had left a Roll behind. I grabbed it and was enjoying the scrumptious offering. Suddenly the man returned. I was ashamed. As I looked down sheepishly I saw the tell-tale signs of Jelly Roll lint all over the front of my blouse. I vowed to attend 2 Fabric Watcher Meetings the next week.

after my husband leaving me after 33 yrs for someone 4 yrs older than our oldest child I now have to get to all those UFOS….and unlike him, the only scraps I want is my fabric scraps! That book can come in handy!

I grew ip on a farm, and unfortunately know the origins of what makes Jell-O gel. Imagine the look on the faces of my college boyfriend’s rather snobbish, entitled family when I met them for the first time at their family picnic and this exchange ensued:
Paramour’s snooty sister: “… and we also have my Jell-O salad. It’s the one dessert that really holds up in rhe heat! Jell-O is so low-brow, but we can pretend to be poors for one afternoon, right? Hahahaha!!”
(Others make similar comments, but then gleefully dig in to the Jell-O fruit mold)
Me, after everyone has taken a few nice big bites): “Jell-O does hold up well as a hot day dessert!! That’s probably because it’s made from rendered animal hooves and bones and cartilage!! Can you pass the whipped cream, please?”

First of all, most of the above is me to a “T”, I LOVE pre cuts because I am color challenged, the pre cuts are already figured out for you, all you have to do is decide what project to pick. If you have Tricia’s book, it’s a no brainer. Second, I hope to win the colorful project book. Hey, I grew up watching the Wonderful World of Color, I need this book.

How precut fabrics have saved ME from a life of despair? ~ Just saying…. I am currently spending my life away at work….. and go home to a camper when I am on job assignment. So Precuts saves my knees and back from having to cut on the big mat down on the Floor!

Since I have been sick with kidney disease, I have not sewn at all for two years. But, I have been buying precuts all along and have a ton of them now, but at a loss on what to do with them except the usual strip quilts. I can’t live without this book because I have a huge quilt book obsession and can’t stand to think that a great idea is out there and I might miss it! Plus, I have pre-cuts to use and yardage to cut up and use as well, this book could really help.

Precut fabrics have saved me from a life of despair because I can’t buy big pieces of every fabric that I see and love, so I can survive by buying precuts. At least I get small pieces of LOTS of fabrics that I love!

Thankfully I have never eaten half a Jelly Roll! But it’s only because I worked at a donut shop several summers during high school and college and ever since then, I don’t eat anything that might be a donut or something donut-like. Good thing these jelly rolls weren’t invented in my teen years!

My life was saved by precuts when my common law husband lost his freaking mind and morfed into a giant douche 8 years ago. I would escape to my sewing machine and the joy of creating a quilt with these new quilting items know as precuts. All the pain would disappear and all that existed was making something filled with joy from my precut

I love my jelly rolls, charms, mini charms and FQ’s. i have a couple of layer cakes I haven’t quite figured out how to use. I am sure this book will have some great inspiration on using my layer cakes…. even some of my FQ bundles too.

I simply cannot live without a copy of this book. My sewing room is being overtaken by precuts without a purpose. Soon the room will no longer be for sewing. It will only be used for precut storage. That’s sad. Ask my husband how sad that is. Ask him how sad it is that I can’t go into a fabric shop and come out empty-handed. Now if you want to save my life and my marriage, you will put my name on the top of the list to win this book. I cannot have “Terrorized By Pre-Cuts” inscribed on my tombstone.

I have a ginormous stash of fabrics, I can’t live without this book because I need more pattern ideas to reduce this fabric stash. (I don’t mind precutting my own yardage.)

I love pre-cuts because they are a time saver and an arm saver!! It takes a lot of time to cut, cut, cut and my arm gets really tired!!

In spite of her diet,
She just had to buy it.
Darn precuts, they knew why she came.
