Psychotherapist, Author, Lecturer, Family-Dynamics Expert

JEANNE SAFER, Ph.D.

About JEANNE…

Jeanne Safer, PhD is a psychotherapist who has been in private practice for thirty-eight years, and the author of five acclaimed and thought-provoking books on neglected psychological issues—the “Taboo Topics” that everybody thinks about but nobody talks about publically.

Jeanne’s books include Cain’s Legacy: Liberating Siblings from a Lifetime of Rage, Shame, Secrecy and Regret (January 2012); The Normal One: Life with a Difficult or Damaged SiblingBeyond Motherhood: Choosing a Life without ChildrenForgiving and Not Forgiving: Why Sometimes It’s Better NOT to Forgive; and Death Benefits: How Losing a Parent Changes an Adult’s Life—For the Better. Both The Normal Oneand Beyond Motherhood were Books for a Better Life Finalists for the year’s best self-improvement books.

Jeanne has appeared on television (The Today Show, Good Morning America and CBS World News Tonight), as a psychological expert on The Montel Williams Show, and on radio (NPR’s Talk of the Nation and The Diane Rehm Show). She has contributed articles to The New York TimesThe New York Times Book ReviewO: The Oprah MagazineMore MagazineThe Washington PostThe Wall Street Journal, and other publications.

Jeanne lives in New York City with her husband, historian and political journalist Richard Brookhiser.

Jeanne says, “In my books, lectures and psychotherapy practice, I’ve made ‘Taboo Topics’ my specialty. I offer new perspectives on such neglected issues as difficult siblings (I am the only therapist in the United States who specializes in treating ‘normal’ siblings of the disabled and dysfunctional), women making choices about motherhood or who have chosen not to have children, whether we should always forgive, and the positive consequences of a parent’s death. Everything I write about is based on my personal experience as well as in-depth research.

I want to share what thirty-eight years of experience as a psychotherapist has taught me about psychological transformation and self-actualization in a one-size-fits-all world. I write for those who want to think and feel for themselves and are not afraid to look within.”

Jeanne’s newest book lays bare the bonds and challenges we share with siblings…

Writer, Editor, Creativity Coach, Blogger

MIRANDA HERSEY

About MIRANDA…

Miranda Hersey is a writer, editor, certified creativity coach, and host of the blog Studio Mothers. As a business owner and the mother of five, Miranda is passionate about helping other women live deeply satisfying, creative lives. Miranda lives in Groton, Massachusetts, happily overrun with people, books, and animals.

Explaining her mission as a creativity coach, Miranda says, “I help clients make life-design choices that support their values and creative intentions. It’s so easy to find yourself sucked into the vortex of daily life, a million miles away from your last creative expression. You know what’s important; you just need a helping hand getting back to what feels right.

I especially enjoy working with creatives who are parents. With a lifetime of dedication to the arts and five children of my own, I understand the challenges of maintaining a creative identity — and career — while raising a family. I know what it’s like to weep in the frozen food aisle because your kids are screaming for popsicles and you’re sleep-deprived, haven’t done anything creative in months, and all you really want is to sit down for 20 minutes and write a poem. (Well, maybe after taking a nap.) I get it, and I can help.”

Artist in Glass, Teacher, “Eating Well With Art” Master

DEB FELLER

About DEB…

Deb says, “Ever since my childhood I have been attracted to the colors and vibrancy of glass. One simple beginner stained glass class in 1982 started my journey with glass. Through the years working with glass has filled me with a sense of accomplishment and integrity, and it has proven to be a vehicle for translating vision into reality. My influences and inspirations come from everything that surrounds me, nature, feelings and life’s experiences. Through dedication and fate in 2002, I opened my business ‘LeTort Glass Studio’ into a full retail glass shop. It has grown with me as a artisan and currently provides, retail space for glass supplies, a gallery, and ample creative workspace. It is a full time profession as I build custom stained glass windows and doors and teach beginner to advanced glass classes.

Kiln formed and Cold working glass has provided me with a diversity in my personal body of work. Each project consists of multiple techniques and different themes. Heating glass and manipulating hot molten glass gives me the ability to form shapes, textures, and color. Sometimes happy accidents influence my next project. This also allows me to accept any mistakes. Glass has taught me a new type of patience which carries into other aspects of my life. My motivation as an artisan  and a human is to always attempt to better myself. I will continue to study glass techniques avidly.”

Deb’s “LeTort Glass Studio” occupies 2,000 square feet in a warehouse studio.  The open floor plan is sky-lit over a large worktable.  Customers enter the shop through a gallery of Deb’s finished glasswork.  Separate Kiln and cold working equipment are at the back of the store, with working space both front and back.  Many different kinds of stained glass and fusing glass are distributed for sale along the long, right-hand wall.  Finished work of all kinds hangs from the ceiling and walls throughout.

Deb’s concept of Eating Well With Art centers around unique hand-made functional artworks to be used at mealtime. Each is one-of-a-kind. Functional Art with The Meal- Well-conceived  art can bring about a good inner feeling. Using functional art in the eating process is like inviting an inner smile.

Deb explains, “The Concept of Wellness: Making meals a pleasant event that beckons everyone. The primary goal of Eating Well with Art is bringing you good health and happiness. To have a healthy body, happy and stable mind, and contended spirit are natural inclinations in the human experience. The benefits of eating well and having a healthy body make the other two inclinations much easier to attain.  The ‘artistic energy’ inherent in hand-made and well-made platters, bowls and wood utensils can make a simple meal a joy filled experience; one to take you along a path to good health and a long life with a positive outlook.”

Deb’s artworks are wonderments of light and utility…

This is the first time I have ever heard your program-it is wonderful.
Just wish I could have asked how you design your fabric lines. Do you pick the colors , do you draw the designs?? Just how do you do it-where does your creativity come in.
