When a creative surge hits it’s only natural for the creative personality to try to capture and harness every drop of the inspired energy. But planning or starting new projects while working on, and trying to complete what you’ve already been creating, can spread your creative energy thin.
While it is always electrifying to introduce new directions and exciting new ideas to your work, be wary of pushing yourself too hard creatively in ways that will split your energies. The distractions can rob your vision and focus. And what will you have to show for your efforts?

I’m so distractible, I probably ought to have this ‘focus’ word tattooed on me somewhere easy to see! 🙂 It agonizes me, though, to lose the idea that does pop into my head while I’m working.
I have found that keeping a little ‘idea’ book (small sketchbook, tiny spiral bound reporter’s notebook, whatever works) is the best way I can keep the new idea but not get dragged off onto a tangent while I am working on something I want to finish.
