Hey kiddles!
I’m watching Bindi Irwin on Rachael Ray this morning. YUCK! My heart breaks for that kid. She’s very smart but doesn’t seem the least bit sincere! Kind of like a talking, empty shell. I loathe her stage mother who grosses me out. Something ain’t right here. Anybody see it? What do you think?
Sandy Muir sent me a copy of Texas Monthly. In it is an article on the Houston Quilt Festival. It’s really a nice, meaty, article written by Michael Hall, a quilter’s son (Jane Hall, author of The Experts Guide to Foundation Piecing). I got a kick out of the typeface they used for the title, The Fabric of our Lives. It’s “woven” and should have been used for an article on weaving and not quilting. Some art director doesn’t know quilting from a hole in the ground. I loved the article – a view as seen by a quilter’s son. I also loved the photograph of Jane Hall in front of her quilt. Of course, the shirtless cowboys (Alexander Henry) made the cut, too. LOL Thanks, Sandy!

Speaking of magazines. I picked up my favorite magazine, Vanity Fair, at Borders the other night. First of all, I’d love to design a quilt using the colors of the gowns and background on the cover. I get a lot of design ideas from looking at these kinds of magazines — and fashion magazines. I also read that they’re doing a big screen version of Brideshead Revisited. I loved that series on PBS (although I was a mere child at the time). There is also a little piece on Phyllis Diller. I met her once, at KGO in San Francisco. Sweet. Very sweet. She’s 204 and she still looks the same as she did in the 60’s. Hell, there must be something to plastic surgery.

In the meantime, I’m waiting to be interviewed on Sally Jessy Raphael’s radio show this morning. They’re calling me this morning at 11:30. I’m kinda nervous.
My favorite catalog hit my mailbox, too! I like the Pottery Barn (although Renovation Hardware is my fav to walk through). 
Quilt Designer, Scott Hansen, sent me this ad this morning. Notice the shorts! Patchwork is back, baby!
Here’s the latest new book to cross my desk. It’s a hard back and very, very nicely done. I’m just not into Crazy Quilts. If you happen to be a fan of crazy quilts, then you MUST have this book for your collection.
I picked up this used book the other day while I was in Montclair, New Jersey, getting my manual typewriter cleaned. Lucky me! You know how I love a vintage quilt book!
Book Progress
Today, I continue working on Chapters 1 and 2 for my C&T book. It’s more difficult than I thought. Do I really have that much to say? LOL Don’t answer that! I put a dent in it the other day, but then stopped. I’d like to finish the roughs today.

Hi Mark, those shorts! I purchased a bolt of pre-pieced fabric like that a couple years ago, on the clearance rack at the local fabric wholesale warehouse. I’m one of the lucky one’s to have two within a couple of hours of me. I wasn’t sure what I would do with it. Just one of those got to have because it was on sale.
I saw it at JoAnn’s a few years back — clearly before its time! xoxom

I am a big fan of crazy quilting, so thanks for recommending the book even though crazy quilting is not quite “your cup of tea.” I appreciate that. I’ll give B&N a call to see if they have it. The plaid shorts are great, remind me of all the wonderful madras plaids we wore in the late sixties. Same for the lime green shirt, one of my favorite colors for clothes I made back then.
Madras? I have no idea what you’re talking about — I wasn’t born until the early 80’s 😉

I agree about Bindi – I really hate that show (my kids love it though – but mainly because they love to watch animal shows) – It was very sad that Animal Planet / mother got her in a show so shortly after her father’s death (I remember seeing something with her in it only months after his death) – very exploitative for me!!!

From what I read when Steve Irwin died, the show was in the works already, and he was thrilled about it for his daughter. I imagine part of the reason they went on with it was because it was what he would have wanted for her and it probably helped keep her mind occupied. I also think people who live in the type of environment and live the life they do, understand death–they see it, even the children, in the wild, and it doesn’t hold the same fear it does for others. Plus, we have to remember, all people mourn differently. I always thought they seemed like such a close family-I imagine he is very proud of her.

I watched Bindi and Mom on RR today too. It was like someone kept pulling the string in her back to say either “It’s so AMAZING!” or “I’m the luckiest girl on the PLANET!” She had nothing substantial to say and neither did her Mom. It’s not the childhood I would want for my children, but who am I to judge? She was a bit scary though.
Whew! Then it wasn’t just me, then! Poor little jungle girl. She’s turned out to be the Baby Jane Hudson of her generation. xoxom

I used the shirtless cowboys fabric for backing on a quilt I made for a friend. Instead of doing a traditional quilting pattern, I outlined the guys, their hats and boots. With that they looked nearly three dimensional, and there was the outline of them on the pieced side. Turned out wonderful. It’s a gift for a friend – thought it would be nice for him to snuggle up to on a cold winter’s night.
BTW, my niece calls the Pottery Barn catalog “house p0rn.” Hahahahahaha

Bindi’s brother got bit by his first snake and they were all thrilled today….I guess it is kind of like losing your first tooth….

Yes, she’s been married to Karl Souderland for 100 years. I love both of them. Jeff gets such a kick out of Karl. He’s so witty and fun and always smiling and laughing. I love to visit them and have to arrange a visit date, soon! xoxom

Viewing Bindi makes my eye start to twitch. I feel like I am watching one of those over-the-top child stars from “back in the day”. Lord love a duck if she really talks that way.

Oh that poor child doesn’t even seem like a real person. Pretty sad actually. Thanks for the mention and I’m holding onto my hat per your instructions. I liken your looking at my little blog and quilty efforts much as I would Picasso looking at my “doodling”. The Irwin parents show as much respect for animals as their children, they are simply tools expolited for the sake of publicity. I find their sensationalism and lack of respect for animals disgusting. Their children are just puppets
